So I said I have been experimenting with the ole camera as a form of being quiet. Just watching, not talking…just peacefully watching, shifting an inch here or there, and clicking. Not a paid family portrait session, but a hunt for beauty in the ordinary. It is easy to shoot pretty people and pretty places and make beautiful art…it is a whole other story to take some jacked up little piece of junk laying around and force yourself to find something beautiful in it. Some of my favorite images over the past few weeks have a common thread. Anyone else seeing what I am seeing?
This one was actually shot with my camera and settings by my dear friend April. I just loved what she saw and how she captured me. We tease all the time that she is my long lost sister I never had, separated at birth by a decade. It is bizarre to be so different and yet so alike.
I say this a lot to my art friends, at how art is such a deep representation of who you are. I can tell a persons personality just by walking by a painting they are working on. I think the same is true for most types of art. When I scan my personal images over a period of a month and pick my faves, I find something interesting about where I am going, what I am feeling. I am thinking very strongly about doing a 365 starting on the first of the year as a form of a treasure hunt. I am wondering what I will find and I wonder if I can do it. What do you think? Anyone double dog dare me?

I triple dog dare you to do a 52. Having attempted the 365 while not having a client load and still falling short around day 187…. I cannot imagine the backlog I would experience with actual clients. So for your sanity…I recommend a 52. But by all means, if you are feeling called to do the 365, I think it is wonderful and you certainly learn about yourself. And it will probably be a whole lot more fun if they’re not selfies like mine. 365 pics of me is just too many. =P
BTW, how did you shoot that silhouette shot?
I double dog dare you! I love to see what God is doing in your life because more often than not, it applies directly to mine as well.
Actually, I am considering doing a project 365 for similar reasons, even praying about blogging it.
I heart the first shot, the candles and the colored lights, especially tonight. I am finding myself drawn to the light shining through darkness of this season as well. I think I’ve finally figured that is why Christmas lights have always made my heart happy.
Karyn…wisdom on the 52, I will mull that over.
Vicki…..go for it…I would love to see what you come up with and silhouettes are super easy. Shoot into the sun and point just past your subject and focus on the light and viola there you have it…a silhouette.
have fun and show me what you got.
We could even do the 52 *together*. ahem. two birds.
Sweet, I will have to try that next time the sun and I are in the same location, lol. Thanks!
karyn…i’m digging the 52 – 2 birds plan…..I should take what I think isn’t a big deal and cut it down by 90% and that should be about right for my life;-) okay email thougts on the joint dealeo -
